Arriving and leaving
When are check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 3pm at all three stays. Check-out is 11am at The Soak and Watertree, and 10am at the Homestead.
Can we check in early?
Usually not on days when guests leave that morning, because each stay needs a few hours to be cleaned and set up for you. Send us a message before you travel: if it's free the night before, or ready early, we'll let you in as soon as we can.
Can we check out late?
Ask us. It depends on whether someone is arriving that day, and we'll say yes whenever we can.
How do we get in? Is there a lockbox?
No codes to fumble with. We send arrival instructions a few days before your stay, and your door is left open with the key inside waiting for you.
Getting here
How do we find you?
We're at 43 Hind Road, Deanmill (some GPS apps call it Manjimup). Coming from Perth without a GPS, take the Graphite Road exit from the highway, then turn left onto Hind Road after about 6 km. Our driveway is the first on the left, about 500 m along. We send detailed directions to your stay before you arrive.
How far is it from Perth?
About three hours by car. We're seven minutes from Manjimup, 30 minutes from Pemberton and 35 minutes from Bridgetown.
Do we need a 4WD?
No. Any car is fine. The Soak is reached by a short grass track inside the farm that suits all cars most of the year; in very wet winter weather, message us and we'll tell you the best place to park.
Your stay
What's provided, and what should we bring?
Linen, towels, toiletries, coffee and tea, and kitchen basics like olive oil, salt, pepper, spices, sugar and sauces are all there, plus firewood, matches and firelighters. The tiny homes also have robes and Epsom salts for the copper bath. Bring groceries for any meals in, something warm (Manjimup gets chilly) and wet-weather gear in winter.
Can we light a fire?
Yes. Firewood, matches and firelighters are supplied for the fireplaces and firepits. Outdoor fires aren't allowed during the summer fire ban season, but the indoor fire at The Soak and the Homestead's wood stove are fine all year.
Is there wifi and phone reception?
There's wifi at all three stays. It's farm wifi, fine for messages and browsing rather than heavy streaming at Watertree. Mobile coverage is patchy outside town; Telstra is the most reliable network in the area.
Will we see the other guests?
The farm is 40 acres and each stay is set apart for privacy. The tiny homes have outdoor baths, so every guest is asked to give the other stays their space, and we ask the same of them for you.
Is it a working farm?
Yes. Dalton's Paddock is an operating vineyard and young truffle farm, so you may occasionally see machinery or people working, though we go out of our way not to interrupt your stay. Kangaroos visit often: they're wild, so enjoy them from a distance. You may also meet Indiana, our very friendly German Shepherd.
Are parties or events allowed?
No parties or events please, and quiet after 9pm so every guest gets the peace they came for. Weddings and celebrations are by arrangement: see our weddings page.
Can we book the whole farm?
Yes. Take the Homestead and both tiny homes together for a birthday, a reunion, a wedding party or a long weekend with friends. Get in touch and we'll hold the dates.
How much luggage fits in the tiny homes?
They really are tiny, so pack light or leave bigger bags in the car and bring in what you need.
Dogs and kids
Can we bring our dog?
Dogs are welcome at the Homestead, inside too, just not on the beds or furniture. There's a $45 fee per pet to cover extra cleaning. Please keep them supervised, as the neighbours have sheep and chickens. The Soak and Watertree aren't suitable for pets.
Is it good for kids?
The Homestead suits families, with four bedrooms, a full kitchen and room to run. The tiny homes are designed for two adults.
Around the area
Where can we eat nearby?
Most Manjimup cafes do breakfast and lunch and close mid-afternoon, so plan dinners ahead, especially on Sundays and Mondays when several kitchens are shut. Our local guide lists what's open, including the closest dinner spot, a few minutes away in Deanmill.
When is truffle season?
Roughly June to August. That's when truffle hunts run and local restaurants put truffle on the menu. Spring brings wildflowers, December is cherry season, and autumn is vintage time in the vineyards.
What's the best time of year to visit?
Any time. Winter is truffles, fires and baths on cold clear nights. Spring has wildflowers and full waterfalls, summer has cherries and long evenings, and autumn is harvest in the vineyards.
